21CCP
The 21st Century Catheter Club Project (21CCP) was established in conjunction with the Bladder and Bowel Foundation to highlight the unresolved needs of people using urinary catheters and provide help and support to those who regularly use them.
It provides an active online forum, where you can exchange experiences and initiate discussions. The site also provides information on specific topics with signposts to advice and support, as well as a regular Newsletter for registered users.
The aim of 21CCP is to design a catheter system that allows the user to maintain correct bladder function by controlling regular and complete drainage. To achieve this information will be collected about present catheter users to establish inadequacies of the current design.
The current catheter design is the largest single source of infection in hospitals and residential care settings, increasing patient discomfort and health costs. Meanwhile, researchers who could contribute to a solution are starved of funds - once on the grounds that "there is no user demand".
Roger Feneley, Chairman of 21CCP says: "We believe your experiences will allow us to make a compelling argument for more research funds to be granted to scientists working in this area. As ever, numbers are important. In the past, research funds have been refused due to the lack of demand by users for a better catheter experience. Change is long over-due."
To succeed, the 21st Century Catheter Project needs the support of catheter users. Please login to the website at www.21ccp.org and register your support today.
