On 20 January 2009 the inaugural meeting of the first All Party Parliamentary Group on Continence Care, chaired by Baroness Sally Greengross, was held. B&BF was delighted to be involved in this milestone event and will continue to push for change and improvement in continence care. The group aims to seek:-
Better funding of quality continence services and product provision
A fair and equitable service for all age groups, ending the postcode lottery of continence services and products
Improved assessment and treatment
Sustainable procurement
AHPMA (Absorbent Hygiene Products Manufacturers Association) is the main sponsor for this work and the lead organisation. Organisations supporting the work are:-
Association of Continence Care (ACA)
Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
PromoCon
Bladder and Bowel Foundation
Help the Aged
ERIC (Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence)
Paediatric Continence Foundation
AHPMA will now meet with Baroness Greengross to settle the administrative formalities for the group and confirm actions required to address areas of concern. The group will also be looking at the new Health Bill to identify areas for action that may benefit patients.
