Antispasmodic medicines relax the intestinal muscles and help to slow down bowel movements to relieve diarrhoea.

These medicines tend to be used to ease the symptoms of IBS and can help to relieve abdominal pain and cramping, especially if you pain occurs straight after eating. Your GP will be able to prescribe these for you if this is an option for you, or you can purchase an over-the-counter product such as Buscopan.
