Practical Advice

When you have been diagnosed with a bladder or bowel problem there will be many questions running through your mind. You may remember to ask your health professional the most obvious ones but in case you're left searching and more importantly worrying, we have included some useful information and handy tips on this page.

You might also like to see our FAQ's section which contains answers to common questions.

Managing Your Symptoms Away From Home

Every day is different from from the last, however, there are one or two things that remain constant. One of these is a basic human necessity for a toilet. Being away from home and feeling the sensation of needing a toilet can be bothersome for many of us, but when you have a bladder problem such as a weak bladder, or a bowel problem like faecal incontinence, the situation is exacerbated.

Luckily there are some handy precautions available to you which should boost your confidence when you're out and about.

Just Can't Wait Toilet Card

The B&BF have a toilet card which fits directly into a wallet/purse. The aim of this card is to help the holder gain access to toilets when they are away from home that wouldn't usually be available to them. Toilets in places such as shops or restaurants, cafes or pubs, museums, gyms etc. The card doesn't guarantee you access but most people you show it to are willing to help.

If you would like to find out more about our Just Can't Wait toilet card please visit our Resources section.

Radar Key

The National Key Scheme (NKS) offers disabled people independent access to locked public toilets around the country. Toilets fitted with National Key Scheme (NKS) locks can now be found in shopping centres, pubs, cafes, department stores, bus and train stations and many other locations in most parts of the country.

Although these essentially are disabled toilets, you can still gain access to them if you have the key.

If you would like to find out more about the Radar key please visit the Radar website.
