Antihistamines
Hydroxyzine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that is used for treating allergic and inflammatory skin condtions.
It is used in the treatment of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome as it blocks the chemicals that can cause inflammation.
People with IC/PBS should normally see an improvement within a short space of time.
Hydroxyzine hydrochloride is not suitable for everyone so it's important that the person prescribing this medicine knows your full medical history.
You may not be suitable for this medication if you:
- are allergic or sensitive to or have had a reaction to any of the ingredients in the medicine
- have bladder problems
- have kidney problems
Side Effects
Everyone's reaction to a medicine is different. You may experience some of the side effects listed below or none at all. If you are having problems with this medicine, its important to tell your GP immediately.
Possible side effects of taking Hydroxyzine hydrochloride are:
- confusion
- convulsions
- dry mouth
- feeling dizzy
- feeling drowsy
- headaches
- motor problems
- reduced alertness
- tremors
- urinary retention
- weakness
